Prevention – The services of our dental hygienists : Julie Ann McGoogan
Our dental hygienists have three main roles:
- Teaching patients good oral hygiene techniques, individually tailored to specific needs.
- Removing calculus (tartar) from teeth – scaling and polishing.
- Treating gum disease (also known as “gingivitis” or “periodontitis”) – caused by plaque, a sticky film of bacteria, which if left untreated causes gums to swell and bleed – ultimately causing tooth loss.

The importance of regular dental exams
Having completed your initial course of treatment, regular checks are of paramount importance to continued oral health. examinations enable problems to be diagnosed at an early stage. We recommend regular examinations at between 9 monthly and a year intervals. We normally give a reminder card the month of your examination.
